Cruise and Travel Insurance

What does cruise and travel insurance cover

  • Personal illness
  • Cancellation of plans by a travel partner
  • Airline delays
  • Lost baggage
  • Cruise line going out of business

A common feeling is, "This will never happen to me" attitude or you might even say, "Nothing that exciting ever happens to me"
Just cover yourself, be safe this time, at least on my watch.

In addition to comprehensive packages, insurance companies offer stand alone add-on's.
They could include:
"Cancel for any reason" these policies are very expensive and may only make sense in certain circumstances
Airline accident coverage
Car rental collision coverage
Upgraded medical coverage.
Emergency evacuation

Cruise-Line or Third-Party Insurance?

When purchasing trip insurance, you have lots of options. Almost every cruise line offers their own travel insurance program. Here is the bad news about cruise lines insurance, it is, "secondary coverage" (secondary coverage means, you will need to try to get recovery from your regular home owners, auto or health insurance company first, then the cruise lines insurance will help with the rest), It is more limited than coverage you can purcace on your own. Ask your travel agent for third party insurance. The Travel Agency always shops for the best coverage for it's clients.
Purcase your Cruise - travel insurance with your first deposit. Waiting too long to buy the insurance can cost you some important benifits.

Hotel411.com and Travel411.com uses Travel Guard and here is what a typical policy of theirs may cover, (THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE), ask Wally Siegel for the real deal.

Let us say a $95,  Travel Guard's Gold plan offers extensive primary coverage including, but not limited to, the following:

Trip cancellation = 100 percent of insured trip cost
Trip interruption = 150% of insured trip cost
Trip delay (maximum of $150/day) = $750
Missed connection = $250
Baggage and personal effects loss = $1,000
Baggage delay = $300
Medical expense = $25,000
Dental = $500
Emergency evacuation/repatriation = $500,000
Accidental death & dismemberment = $10,000

Passengers between 35 and 59 years old and plan to insure a cruise fare of $1,200 to $1,600. per person, the cost of Travel Guard's Gold plan would be arround $95 per person.
The per-person cost for
*travelers of ages 60 to 69 is $125
*travelers of ages 70 to 74 is$175
(Cancel for Any Reason coverage is available as an add-on for 1.4 times the base plan cost.)
